Action Africa and Project C.U.R.E. are pleased to announce the delivery of over $500,000 of targeted medical supplies to the Magburka Government Hospital. Like many hospitals in Sierra Leone the government hospital in Magburka fights many life and death battles every day. Action Africa and Project C.U.R.E. know that the outcome of these battles is often determined by the availability of simple medical supplies; unfortunately providing vast qualities of medical supplies is not always the answer. The key is providing the right medical supplies that target specific needs.
Action Africa of Washington DC and Project C.U.R.E. have worked together to target the assistance given to the Magburka Government Hospital. The container of supplies recently delivered by Action Africa and Project C.U.R.E. in Magburka consisted of specific medicines and health equipment that were identified by the hospital staff as a critical shortage. Project C.U.R.E. then pulled these items from their warehouse of donated medical equipment in Colorado, USA, matching line for line the list developed by the Magburka hospital staff. Action Africa raised the funds to ship this container to Sierra Leone. The result is TARGETED assistance. “By working with the Magburka hospital staff to identify exactly what they need we know everything delivered will be used,” says Dr. Chris Egbulem, President of Action Africa. He continues, “resources are scarce, so we want to make sure what we send is what they really need…we can only guarantee this if we work hand in hand with the staff at the hospital.”
Action Africa and Project C.U.R.E. hope to repeat the same process at six additional hospitals in Sierra Leone. Even thought it will be the same process, there is no guarantee that any of the shipments will be identical. Although it is more difficult to TARGET assistance as opposed to providing a standard package of supplies both organizations agree the end result is worth the extra effort.
