Sierra Leone Rising!
At the end of 2013 and also at the beginning of 2014, Action Africa staff members made scheduled trips into Sierra Leone both to evaluate some of our projects there and also to prepare the ground for planned program expansion for the coming years. As a result of the efforts, a new local entity was finally born. ACTION SALONE ON HEALTH AND EDUCATION (ASHE), with an office in Freetown, and another office in Lunsar, became a partner entity that oversees and implements Action Africa programs in various parts of the country.
Action Africa worked with ASHE to coordinate the delivery of a container of medical supplies and equipment to the Lunsar Medical Clinic. The London Mining Corporation in Sierra Leone funded this project. Additionally, funds were arranged for the delivery of another container of medical equipment and supplies to the Government Hospital, Port Loko, Sierra Leone. In all, as many as ten government and regional hospitals were fully assessed by Action Africa and Project C.U.R.E. for targeted services in supplies and equipment. Each 40-foot container load is roughly estimated at half a million dollars in value. The benefit to the local population is enormous and not easy to quantify. Efforts such as these help to lift Sierra Leone off the ground, after years of economic betrayals and in-country conflicts.
Beyond the medical outreach and support, Action Africa continues to support programs in childhood education and microenterprise programs in the country.

To strengthen its capacity-building efforts, Action Africa also responds to the needs of newly arriving African immigrants and refugees in the U.S.
